National Novel Writing Month

What’s after NaNoWriMo?

Hello, everyone! I hope you had a wonderful holiday!

How did everyone’s project go for National Novel Writing Month? Were you able to complete your 50k or other goal?

Personally, I was not able to get the 20-25k that I aspired to, in order to complete my YA historical novel. But I did get 10k more words in my document, and got back into the swing of things after a summer spent working on other projects. I feel a little bit down, honestly, that I didn’t reach my goal, but also glad that I got some progress in it, and that I got back into the habit of writing more (still not achieving daily, to be honest).

What’s after NaNoWriMo?

Some people ask, what do I do now? For those whose novel is not done after NaNo, such as myself, we may choose to keep going on our novel. For others, they have a completed draft and like to revise the project after that initial 50k draft. Still others like to take a break and work on something else, or rest a bit, after the big push of a month of writing daily and trying to reach daily wordcount par.

What do you plan to do, now that NaNo is over?

For me, I plan to keep going on my novel, and finish the draft. Then I plan to send it to some betas for editing, and work on other projects – perhaps fanfiction, perhaps rough drafts, perhaps poetry. After that, whenever the edits are back, I plan to dive into revising my draft!

I’m really excited to be using this helpful document from the NaNoWriMo website to revise. I’ve never used it before! And Lord knows I need help when it comes to revising.

Until next time,
Chaitanya
