Just For Fun

Rejected does not have to = dejected.

Hello friends,

Recently I watched a film about Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein – Mary Shelley, on Amazon Prime. I can’t remember how I found it or how I came to be inspired to watch it, but it throttled through me with a rush of inspiration and restlessness. I think I found it from a ’10 poetry movies’ article when I was researching for my last blog post here.

The movie inspired me so much, I decided that I simply MUST finish and publish SOMETHING, and all the fear in the world isn’t going to stop me. That I can only go up from here, where I am writing fanfiction for comfort, not finishing my YA novella or WIP novels. That I should only see hope and the broad world, rather than feeling like I live on a tiny island where no one knows me and I’m stuck with a mirror where I have to look back at a me that is full of sadness and feels like a failure.

I’m done with that. I’m ready for change!!

Today I am still recovering from jetlag after a cross-country trip to see family, and I decided it’s about time to update this blog again. I submitted 3 poems to 10-20 places before the trip and have already received 5 or so rejections.

At first when I saw the email rejections I felt down. After all, my poetry has only ever been rejected, never accepted, and I’ve submitted multiple times over the years.

But my sister and mother heard my plight over vacation and suggested, why not submit something new instead of something old? For, I had only submitted old poems I wrote in 2010 and liked. I’ve written poems somewhat recently but didn’t like them enough to submit them.

Now I’m back in front of my work calendar and I see the list of writer/poet movies I wrote down, and there’s still many to watch! So seeing this list reminded me of my post-Mary-Shelley-film inspiration. So I will not let the rejections get me down. Rejection does not have to = dejection! I will keep on going!

I plan to find some beautiful, quiet places where I can contemplate this weekend, drift and dream, and hopefully write some new poetry to submit to places. Wish me luck!

Here is my list of writer/poet films to see, if anyone got curious:

Kill Your Darlings – on Netflix
Total Eclipse – ?? where to watch?
Camilla Claudel – ?? where to watch?
A Quiet Passion – on Amazon Prime
Wild Nights with Emily – on Amazon Prime
Bright Star – on Netflix
Papusza – on Amazon Prime

And the ones I’ve already watched:
Mary Shelley – on Amazon Prime
Wilde – on Amazon Prime

Not all are free, alas. But most are, I think, if you are already subscribed to streaming. For those that aren’t, I consider it a good investment, after how much the Mary Shelley movie spoke to me!

Until next time,
Chaitanya
